How do I get rid of wrinkles?

I recently came across this wonderful book on a visit to the MOCO Museum in Barcelona (Wrinkles by JR). It has ended up on my coffee table and if you ever have the good fortune to flick through it you will be hard pushed to disagree with the beauty of this book.

I never lie to you – I would love to simply embrace my physical ageing, go grey, get wrinkly, own my lumps and bumps but the truth is I am not ready for that yet.

I realised the way I felt about the way I looked from a youngish age and began to have anti wrinkle treatments in my 30s. London life makes ageing tough!

How do I get rid of wrinkles?’ is according to my friend, Google, a seriously commonly asked question.

The truth is that getting rid of wrinkles is much harder than preventing them in the first place.

Prevention of wrinkles

Sometimes people ask me – ‘Is it true that Botox helps to prevent wrinkles too?’

The answer is a big fat YES!!! PREVENTION is actually what it is for. For those of you who say ‘I’ll wait until my fifties to start’….it will be too late! You are much better to start younger and finish earlier rather than vice versa.

Believe it or not – most injectable treatments are targeting the prevention & onset of signs of ageing. Yes you can overdo unnecessary treatments at a young age and end up with the doll look favoured by many a celeb and social media star, but in the main, soft subtle treatments starting earlier rather than later will give you so much more benefit than chasing lines in your fifties.

‘How do I get rid of wrinkles?’

However – none of that actually answers your question ‘how do I get rid of wrinkles?’

OK, so you have already got some lines set in the skin and you want to reduce or get rid of them. Depending on the depth of the lines, Botox and filler can help to do that – it may take a little more treatment than used in prevention and or consistent regular treatments.

You should also consider the importance of skincare – good medical skincare. My go to range is the American brand ZO – headed up by THE skin guru Dr Zein Obagi, but there are other brands available!

The most important items in your skincare regime for wrinkles? Cleanser, SPF (every single day full face, neck, decolletage) then an effective anti ageing night treatment. Bin your ‘over rich’ night cream and swap it for a product that stimulates your skin cells to get busy! These kind of creams do not have the instant feel good factor of richer night creams but get over it – they work!! If you are not used to using high grade medical skincare, I always start my clients off with ZO Growth Factor Serum – effective but gentle, so a great starting point. Once you get accustomed to that, I will gradually ease into something a little more pokey.

Last but certainly never least in my book, look after yourself. We all know the things that are bad for us. Your skin will benefit from less alcohol, less sugar, less fat, less stress, less smoking, less sun exposure.
