What is TrapTox?
TrapTox is a specialised botulinum toxin treatment designed to relax and reduce the activity of the trapezius muscles across the upper shoulders and neck. By reducing muscle activity, the treatment can create a softer, more streamlined shoulder profile while also helping to ease tension associated with overactive trapezius muscles.
Treatment involves a series of carefully placed injections into the trapezius muscles following an individual assessment of your anatomy and muscle activity.
TrapTox is an off-label use of botulinum toxin and is only suitable following an in-person consultation with an appropriately qualified prescriber.

Your consultation
Your consultation takes around 30 minutes.
We assess your trapezius muscle development; evaluate your posture and areas of tension; discuss your goals; review your medical history and current medications; explain the treatment process and expected outcomes; discuss pricing; and answer your questions.
Treatment day
Your treatment appointment takes around 30 minutes; the injections themselves take around 15 minutes.
The treatment area is cleansed and marked to identify the injection points.
Using ultra-fine needles, your practitioner administers botulinum toxin at carefully placed points in the trapezius muscles.
Most clients find the procedure comfortable, describing the sensation as similar to small pinpricks.
The procedure is generally well tolerated without anaesthesia.
Afterwards you are usually able to leave the clinic and carry on with normal activities.
Results and follow-up
Initial effects start within 2–4 days, continuing to improve over the next 1–2 weeks. Full results are at 3–4 weeks.
Duration of treatment effect is 4–6 months; for some people it can last a little longer.
We usually recommend a follow-up appointment 3–4 weeks after treatment to assess results.

Is TrapTox right for you?
TrapTox is suitable for adults aged 18–65.
When not to treat: during pregnancy, breast feeding and with certain medications or medical conditions.
Your suitability for treatment will be discussed during your consultation.

Possible side effects
- Mild injection site discomfort, usually resolving within 24–48 hours.
- Temporary muscle weakness in the treated area.
- Rare instances of asymmetry.
- Temporary difficulty with certain shoulder movements.
- In the first 24 hours mild tenderness, bruising, redness or small injection-site bumps are possible; most people feel completely comfortable by 24–48 hours.
Aftercare
- First 4 hours: Stay upright, avoid lying flat, and avoid rubbing, massaging or applying firm pressure to the treated areas. Normal gentle movement is fine.
- First 24 hours: Avoid strenuous exercise, heavy lifting, HIIT and vigorous cardio, and intensive upper-body workouts. Gentle walking is fine.
- First 24 hours: Avoid massage, physiotherapy, foam rolling or deep pressure over the trapezius.
- First 24 hours: Avoid saunas, steam rooms and hot yoga; tight clothing or straps pressing directly on the injection sites; and very hot showers directly over the area. You can shower normally.
- On the day of treatment: Avoid excessive alcohol, particularly if you are prone to bruising.
- After 24–48 hours: Gradually return to normal activity; light cardio is generally fine. Avoid heavy shoulder and trapezius training — for example shrugs, heavy rows, overhead presses, deadlifts and heavy carries — for 48 hours, then ease back into it rather than returning immediately to maximum loads.
- Normal massage can be resumed once the injection sites are comfortable; take care with deep-tissue or trigger-point work over the treated muscle for several days.
- If you are having TrapTox for shoulder slimming, be cautious about returning immediately to very heavy trapezius-focused training, as ongoing muscle-building (hypertrophy) stimulus works against the intended aesthetic effect.
- We usually recommend a follow-up appointment 3–4 weeks after treatment to assess results.
