Luscious Lip Enhancement!

Posted on 4 April, 2011

The lips are a focal point of the face. They are mechanically functional in helping us to eat, drink and speak. They help us to communicate not just by shaping the words that come out but  we can watch the lip movements of others to assist in understanding speech. They also convey our mood - smiling to convey contentment, laughing open mouthed for unrestrained happiness  and also sadness can result in the sometimes involuntary pulling down of the corners of the mouth. Some say that lips are a symbol for sensuality and sexuality. This has many origins, mainly it is because the lips are a very sensitive erogenous and tactile organ. Human lips are unique owing to the 'vermillion border' that is the outline or the border of your lips. The lips appear red because of the underlying blood vessels and the many nerve endings are the reason for the association with sensuality.

You should look after your lips in the same way you do the rest of your face, regular exfoliation, moisturising and sun protection. Good oral hygiene will enhance your smile and increase your confidence when you are talking, it would defeat the object to have beautiful lips with bad breath or bleeding gums! Juvederm Ultra Smile is a mix of Hyaluronic Acid and Lidocaine especially created for lip enhancement. The numbing agent means that even in this sensitive area that lips can be enhanced in relative comfort. There can be lots of different ways to augment the lip area as follows: The body of the lip itself can be made fuller. In the ideal image of beauty the lower lip is meant to be bigger than the upper at a ratio of around 1.4:1.6 or 40% upper lip 60% lower, however nowadays there are many variations on this - equal upper & lower or even larger upper lip. The vermillion border can be flattened with age and can be a great way to start lip enhancement especially if you have never had it before. The cupids bow can also be less defined for some people sometimes as a result of age sometimes genetics. Finally the area at the corners of the mouth can start to lose volume over time and result in a downward turn of the mouth making you appear miserable when you are not. A lot of people worry that injecting the lips will result in an obvious or unnatural look. The key thing with lips (as with all injectable treatments)  especially if a first time treatment is to go lightly! You can always add more after a few weeks when the product has settled and you know how you feel about it. If you use this approach you cannot lose!
