On The Lash I wanted to impart a few little tips and tricks about how to get the best out of your lashes and how to enhance them and get them looking lush and beautiful. I don't know about you, but I definitely suffer with lash envy. Whenever I see someone with long thick lashes whether natural or extensions, I do get really envious! But extensions are just part of the story. There are a few options with enhancing your lashes, extensions, falsies, enhancing mascaras, growth serums & supplements.
Extensions: I have a couple of really good therapists that I could recommend to you if you were wanting to go down the lash extension route. Personally, they're not for me, and I'll tell you why. I've tried them a couple of times, because I'm determined to get on with them, but I just don't. I find that after 24 hours on one side, the lashes are really depleted. I think that's because I sleep like I'm dead. I'll be on one side pretty much the whole of the night. I think that's the one side where they will come out. That beautiful look for me lasts less than 24 hours before one side is really diminished. Then the other issue that I find with them is that no matter how careful I am, and I am really careful to look after them, is that when they fall out, I feel like my lashes have gone to little tiny little stumps. Again, I am aware that that could be just me thinking that because I've forgotten how short they are before the extensions went on. That's just my experience. As I said, I'm not saying I'll never do it again because I do promise myself I'm never going to do it again, but it only takes someone to walk into my clinic, and I get consumed with lash envy and then I start considering it again! From my knowledge, they last anything from a couple of weeks to I know some people get a good few months out of them. (I really don't know how they do that.)
Falsies: Falsies, again, I don't get on with. I can't put them on. I don't like to spend a lot of time getting ready. Even if I'm going out, I'm not someone who spends all day getting ready. I am a fairly minimal girl on that front. They're too fiddly. I can't deal with them. I wish I could, but they're just not for me, but they are an option. I think they're a little less harsh on your eyelashes than extensions.
Enhancing Mascara: There is a mascara that I've discovered in lockdown via Facebook, and it's called Younique Moonstruck Epic 4D. It's a fibre mascara. I have to say, I'm really happy with it. It's £23, it's only available online. It lengthens and thickens and is easy to remove. I have to say, I really quite like it.
Lash Growth: Then lash growth. Firstly, RevitaLash. RevitaLash is a product that comes in a nice mascara-like tube. You simply apply it as if it's a liquid eyeliner, just to the upper lid, as close to your lash line as possible. You apply it every night. After about six weeks, you will start to notice the lashes are longer and thicker and darker. Once you are happy your lashes you then apply a few times each week to maintain the look. RevitaLash works really well. It's a good product. I like it and it’s £78.99. we can put this in the post to you & you can get started straight away. Latisse is a product available in the USA Now Latisse started life (and continues) as a medicated eye drop used to treat Glaucoma. It was noted that patients prescribed this began to grow longer, thicker, darker lashes. Indeed many drugs have been discovered to treat things for which they were not originally intended. Let me give you examples, there is a weight loss drug that started life as a treatment for Type 2 Diabetes, a smoking cessation drug that started as an antidepressant. So this is not unusual. In the USA this Glaucoma treatment has been nicely repackaged and presented as Latisse – the lash growth serum. In the UK, this relicensing process has not happened yet, and I'm not entirely certain why it's taking so long. Licensing though, for drugs, is very expensive and a very lengthy procedure. Once something is licensed for use in the USA, you can be very, very confident that it's all kosher because of the litigation culture that there. So here in the UK we still have to use the medication, as the lash growth serum, which makes it a very unglamorous product. However it also an extremely effective, extremely safe product. This is my personal lash growth serum of choice. Used in the same way as Revitalash and applied every night, you will see results after six weeks after which you can reduce down to a couple of times / week. The Lash Growth is £150 for three months’ supply (actually lasts a lot longer than three months!). Both products can also safely be applied to the brows to promote hair growth.
Supplements: Collagen Shots, which is a marine-based product, comes in a powder form. Mix it up with water and you take that once a day. It will help with all elements of skin and hair growth (and possibly nails too!) If you're looking to really try and maximize hair growth, to get your hair looking healthy, lashes looking lush, then that would be something to consider as well.
Finally, we also offer Biotin injections. Biotin is Vitamin H. A part of the B Complex. Biotin assists your body’s keratin infrastructure impacting hair growth. Firstly I would always recommend that you maximise your nutritional intake before considering supplements, but they can be an advantageous add-on for those who struggle with that or are looking for something additional. Our hair, skin and nails are the last in the queue to benefit from our dietary nutrition so sometimes a little extra help is what’s called for. If you are interested in finding out more about any of these options please do get in touch!
