Damaged Decolletage?

Posted on 11 August, 2011

The décolletage is the area of skin that extends from the base of the neck downwards for about 2 hand breadths. In centuries past, exposing this part of the body was perceived as offensive. These days we commonly expose this area of skin. The skin in this area is different to that on our faces – it is thinner and there is very little fat. Even if we are good at protecting our faces using SPF and a good skincare regime, the décolletage tends to be ignored in the same way as hands. This means that although our faces may have retained some youth our décolletage will be a dead giveaway, crinkly skin, age spots, freckles & dryness. This area of skin suffers not only from the inevitable effects of ageing but also from exposure to the skin, lack of moisturising and the added problem of the crinkles that appear from years of sleeping on your side. Those with larger breasts are more affected by this last point. All to often we only start to notice once the damage is visible. So what’s the answer? There are plenty of gadgets & creams available on the market – bras to hold your breasts in a certain position, sticky pads to apply to the décolletage, neck cushions etc... If you are reading this in your twenties, you have the benefit of our experiences - just don’t ignore this area! The skin is the largest organ of the body – don’t pick out parts of it to care for, care for all of it! Moisturise as you would your face and above all else use a daily high level SPF. If you enjoy training then push-ups and swimming breaststroke are great bust-toners, but weights are also important, get some help from a trainer. If you already have some visible damage the above still applies. You may also want to consider some corrective treatments to give your self a boost. Hydrating hyaluronic acid injections can be used to inject some moisture into the area, following the defined crease lines or given as a mesotherapy type treatment.  The best results are achieved through a course of 3 treatments.

Owing to the high number of blood vessels in this area there is a high chance that you will get some bruising afterwards so as with all aesthetic treatments you need to plan ahead. Dermaroller™ can also be used to stimulate collagen production and improve the tone and condition of the skin. You can use both treatments combined to get the best results. This means that although our faces may have retained some youth our décolletage will be a dead giveaway, crinkly skin, age spots, freckles & dryness.
