What is a mid-facelift?

“What is a mid-facelift?”

“What’s a liquid facelift?”

Ever heard of a liquid facelift or a mid face lift and wondered what the heck it is?

What is mid face filler?

The first thing to know is a mid-facelift or liquid facelift are the same thing. They each refer to a way of creating lift without going under the knife. When we talk about mid-facelifts or liquid facelifts, we generally mean the use of dermal fillers, with or without Botox.

Why would I consider mid-facelift filler?

As we get older the skin ages in a number of ways. One of the ways we age is that we start to lose the volume in our faces that we had when we were younger. The places that we lose volume from are:

  • The temples
  • The cheeks
  • The lips
  • The jawline
  • The chin

This effect leads to sagging, drooping and flatness in the face leaving you looking tired, grumpy, unhealthy or a combination of all of these.

Dispelling the myths

I have often had clients tell me that they think they need a facelift or are planning for a facelift. They think perhaps it’s best just to sit it out until they are ready to sign up for surgery and bypass having dermal fillers or Botox at all.

I think one of the least commonly understood benefits of all injectables (so -Botox, dermal fillers, skin boosters) is that these treatments are intended as prevention.

So what do I mean by that? What I mean is the whole point of Botox and dermal fillers is to make subtle enhancements to slow the signs of ageing and negate the need or desire to do anything dramatic or surgical. Careful placement of high quality hyaluronic acid based filler works by replacing some of the lost volume, but most importantly -that lift. Botox in the upper face will work by softening the lines and by creating lift around the eye area.

Things you never knew about Botox

You can also use Botox in the lower part of the face to work against the muscles that are intent on pulling everything south. The muscles around the mouth, chin, jaw and neck all have a ‘pulling down’ effect. This is interrupted by expertly placed Botox.

When should you start?

This question really depends on you and your genes. The answer is different for everyone but one rule is the same.

DON’T LEAVE IT TOO LATE!!

What do I  mean by this? If you wait until the lines are set in your forehead at rest, until your cheeks are flattened and the corners of your mouth are turning downwards you are going to struggle to get the beautiful results you deserve.

The effects of ageing seem to happen overnight. Obviously that’s not a reality but it is a real perception. Try not to be that person who is waiting for that to happen until you take action. Addressing the small subtle changes in your face with a mid-facelift or liquid facelift will result in the option of treating subtly and conservatively with beautiful results.

Will I need to carry on forever?

I think you already know the answer to this. As long as you want to address the signs of ageing you will need to continue with treatments. That being said. If you were to start having dermal fillers and Botox in your 30s and then stop in your 50s, your face will always be significantly less lined and sunken than if you had done nothing. You will still look good in your 50s,  60s, 70s and beyond. The normal signs of ageing will resume at the normal pace but they do not accelerate to catch up with the previous 20 years.
