Microneedling in a Nutshell

Microneedling explained – microneedling has recently become more and more popular, thanks to influencers and models alike posting about their skincare routines on the Gram. But, is microneedling really for everyone? Here’s everything you need to know about microneedling…

What is Microneedling?

Microneedling is a medical procedure used to treat many different skin conditions. It involves using multiple tiny, sterile needles to gently puncture the skin in a specific area to cause physical trauma. This can be done by a mechanical pen, a roller or a stamp such as the WOW fusion® device.

This technique is also known as “collagen induction therapy” because these traumas literally “wake up” the skin and stimulate its natural healing processes. This can lead to both increased collagen and elastin production as a result of stimulation of growth factors. Collagen and elastin are proteins considered to be the “building blocks” of the skin, as they help keep the skin looking youthful, with a firm, smooth, and stretchy texture.

Stimulating their growth is super beneficial as the skin will appear younger, healthier and glowing.

In addition to stimulating the renewal of the skin, Microneedling is also great because the tiny injections in the skin help topical ingredients get through the skin barrier, making them way more effective. The best solutions to use to boost a microneedling treatment are specially formulated Hyaluronic Acid, Multivitamin & Antiaging complexes.

Microneedling is not only used for an overall rejuvenation of the skin: it is also used to address many other skin-related issues, including:

  • Acne
  • Acne-scarring
  • Stretch marks
  • Rosacea
  • Loose skin
  • Hyperpigmentation.

It’s important to remember however, that Microneedling is not a quick fix, as it involves the growth of new skin. It can take several months for a person to see the full results of the procedure.

Is Microneedling for everyone?

It really sounds like Microneedling is the holy grail of gorgeous skin, doesn’t it? Well, it can indeed be seen as one of the best treatments to combat many skin woes. As an official WOW Fusion partner (and ambassador / trainer) we are well placed to advise you to your suitability.

What about DIY Microneedling?

At-home Microneedling has become widely accessible during the last couple of years: many people prefer this option as it is less expensive and less invasive, however they are not as effective as in-clinic procedures.

Since collagen and elastin are found in the deeper layer of the skin, an at home microneedling device won’t reach that depth as the needles are usually not long enough – however, with consistent use it will still give you a healthy glow and help to keep your skin cells active in between clinic treatments. The WOW at Home kit comes with everything you need to maintain skin with home needling. However, only professional devices have the necessary length to reach deep down the skin and really help target any specific skin issues.
