When it comes to hormones we are all so different. I am not going to lie, being the daughter of a stoic Irish Catholic Mother, I never paid much attention to my hormones. When I started my period, I had one painfully awkward conversation with my Mum. I say conversation - I think it lasted about 30 seconds and consisted of her showing me where to stick a sanitary towel! Such things as feeling, emotions, hormones, sex, boys, periods were just ‘not done’ in my home of 4 females out of 6. So I could not possibly have told you how hormones affect emotions or even known that they did.
My first period was heavy and painful and then after that I spent a lot of time on the contraceptive pill. I never really encountered much in the way of physical symptoms or psychological symptoms (maybe my husband will tell you differently!). I was, it seems quite lucky, I was also quite sporty which probably helped on that front.
Now I am reaching a certain age, the conversation that dominates my friends' WhatsApp group is Menopause - hot flushes, mood swings, bloating, sleepless nights. I, myself am starting to experience things I haven’t noticed before, increased anxiety, changes to my menstrual cycle, changes in my energy levels, changes in my body fat storage. This is all new territory for me personally, I am used to listening to others disclosing intimate details but that has never been me. It really is revelationary but at the same time quite crazy that all of these are topics that women (and men) seem to now be having open conversations about. No 30 second weird interactions but actual conversations and discussions.

I have always loved the relationships side of being a nurse - getting to know my patients from all walks of life has always felt like an incredible privilege. I like to think that I have a special relationship with each and every one of you.
You might have guessed but I am not about to tell you how hormones affect emotions. I am rather hoping that you feel comfortable enough to tell me.
I have worked hard at improving my listening skills and at helping you to express yourselves.
I like to think that you feel the same. When you come to see me we have those conversations - no baggage no pressure no need to pretend everything is fine. These chats are all part of the experience of feeling good.
I am delighted to officially implement these skills now with my brand new service.
The women’s health sessions are designed to allow you time to talk, time to think, time to connect the dots.
Life is stressful and we experience physical & emotional symptoms for a variety of reasons. Trying to unpick the reasons for experiencing certain issues can be overwhelming when you try to think about it.
Sometimes simply stepping back, speaking out loud and having someone to hear you can make all the difference in the world. Something that was so obvious can be hidden amongst the dramas of every day life.
My pedigree is training in women’s health with the world famous Dr Marion Gluck & being one of the few nurses in the UK to have successfully undertaken the (rather intense!) GP consulting skills training ‘Teaching The Teachers’.
Feeling happy every day for me has to be the most important goal in life - more important than money, more important than being happy on holiday or a night out. Feeling happy is underrated and undervalued. My goal is to feel happiness every single day and I want to help you to feel happier every day too.
If you would like to explore this concept, get in touch and we can give you more information.
