7 Simple Steps To Youthful Looking Skin!

Posted on 31 July, 2010

So you have taken the plunge and spent some of your hard earned money on treatments to freshen yourself up and give nature a helping hand! Now you need to make sure you get the best out of it & keep your skin looking as fresh as you can for as long as you can. Did you know that many of the factors which increase your likelihood of skin cancer also increase the visible signs of ageing? So, by taking the time and effort to look good you are also protecting your skin at the same time! Here are 7 simple steps to help you to look your best at all times!

Sun protection factor at all times! Always wear a moisturiser with a high SPF even during the winter or when it’s not sunny. The sun not only increases your risk of cancer  but is one of the main culprits for ageing – if you want that bronzed look then fake it!

Stop smoking…need we say any more?!

Drink plenty of water. We should all aim to drink at least 1 litre of water every day. Our needs vary according to our size, the weather & how much activity we do.

Vitamins and minerals. The best way to get all the vitamins and minerals needed for our bodies to grow and repair are from a healthy balanced diet.  We should be aiming to eat at least 5 portions of fruit and veg every day in addition to protein, complex carbohydrates and even a small amount of fat.

Exercise – our bodies have built in sophisticated nourishment & detoxification systems that are working all the time without even needing to think about it!  Our blood delivers much needed nourishment to the skin so what better way to boost the circulation than regular cardiovascular exercise. We should be aiming for at least half an hour of vigorous exercise on at least 5 days of the week – that’s any activity that makes your heart beat faster and gets you hot!

Facial exercising – exercising is not just for the body – try giving your face a daily work out by  just by saying the letters of the vowels in an exaggerated manner. Repeat this over and over until you feel the tension in your face and neck. There are plenty of books available detailing exercises to focus on specific areas.

Moderate your alcohol intake. Alcohol will dehydrate the skin  and leave you looking drawn & tired.
